COVID-19 AND THE FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS

          SARS-CoV-2, also known as the Coronavirus, causes the disease COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control says that the disease is much more contagious than the ordinary flu--something we see everyday as businesses are closed and we are ordered to stay at home. 

          But what about inmates? Unfortunately, the State of Florida is not taking any action that allows any inmates to be released early or to have any modification of the nature of their confinement. 

          However, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, together with Congress, has taken action. Under 18 U.S.C. s. 3582(c)(1)(A), minimum and low custody inmates incarcerated in a federal prison may be eligible to serve the remainder of their sentences in home confinement.
